Not all wines are created equal, and neither are all cheeses. When it comes to wine and food pairings, understanding the different wine varietals is key to creating harmonious combinations. In this post, we’ll break down the most common wine varieties and which types of foods they pair best with — so you can elevate your tasting experience.
Red wines: Robust wines that complement hearty dishes, red meats, and even homemade pizzas. Tannic reds such as Bordeaux, California Cabernets, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape are excellent with braised red meat, steaks, burgers, and stews.
White wines: These wines are known for being "dry." Wines that are bright, crisp, and are high in acid such as French Sauvignon Blanc, Italian Pinot Grigio, and Spanish Albariño partner well with Saffron risotto with shrimp, zucchini-mushroom quiche, fresh salads, and fish tacos.
Rosé: The adaptable and enjoyable wines! (But then again, aren't all wines enjoyable? ;) ) Opt for a refreshing Provençal style Rosé, or a sparkling pink wine to accompany spicy Thai dishes, sushi, or whatever delights your taste buds!
We hope that you found this fun and insightful as you sip your way through the wine world! Stay tuned for more specific pairings and ideas for recipes you can make at home!
